When considering speakers for high efficiency the multi driver approach has many advantages i.e. being relatively small, the IPL5" drivers have a distinct midrange advantage over say a single 10", and the A3 is able to produce a very respectable bass extension (45htz in a 31 litre enclosure) .A single high efficiency 10" unit would be struggling to produce the same amount of bass in an enclosure of double that size without some form of equalisation.. The A3 has a superbly detailed and dynamic sound with astonishing scale, and a full but controlled bass, It is an easy load to drive for any amplifier 10 watts or upwards. The A3 uses no less than 4 of the excellent IPL 5" 130SH with its shielded magnet, treated paper cone, and stiff polymer chassis, (the advantage of the polymer chassis with its integrated gasket is that virtually no driver vibration is conducted back to the cabinet resulting in a minimum of colouration) and the new shielded version of the SEAS 27mm dome . Both drivers have very low distortion and very linear responses, ensuring an overall flat response. The fact that the tweeter has a high definition dome and cooling holes in the aluminium former means that it can operate without ferrofluid .This ensures a very fast response and an exquisitely detailed sound
The Bi-wired crossover kit which is built on the CP4L Gold connection panel is 2nd order, and uses, where necessary, IPL polypropylene capacitors and super power and air-cored inductors (resistors are not required as the tweeter is not attenuated). The internal damping is with IPL"s profiled acoustic foam, and spikes are provided in the Plus kit for the bass of the stand. The reflex port included with the plus kit is flared to ensure smooth airflow and superior bass performance. At this stage a cabinet kit is not available, but full instructions are provided together with comprehensive diagrams to make the panels easy to cut, and the kit easy to construct.
